Overnight at the Hotel

Elevation: 1,400 meters (4,600 feet)

After a satisfying breakfast, embark on a full day of exploration within the Kathmandu Valley, visiting several UNESCO World Heritage Sites located in the city of Kathmandu.

Key Highlights:

Pashupatinath Temple: This magnificent temple, renowned for its architectural grandeur, is situated along the banks of the sacred Bagmati River. It is dedicated to Lord Shiva, the Hindu god of destruction, and is considered one of the most awe-inspiring Shiva temples. Pashupatinath, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, houses an ornate pagoda enshrining the sacred linga, a phallic symbol of Lord Shiva. Each year, thousands of pilgrims from around the world visit this temple. Note that non-Hindu visitors are not permitted within the temple complex. Pashupatinath also serves as Nepal's most renowned Hindu cremation site, where traditional rituals are performed for the deceased. The ashes are collected and dispersed into the Bagmati River, eventually joining the holy Ganges. Arya Ghat, where members of the royal family were cremated, holds particular significance. The primary cremation site is the Bhasmeshvar Ghat, the most widely used cremation ground in the Kathmandu Valley.

Boudhanath Stupa: Boudhanath Stupa is a prominent symbol in Kathmandu, serving as the center of Tibetan Buddhism and boasting one of the world's largest spherical stupas or mandalas. The stupa rises atop a colossal three-tiered pedestal and reaches a height of 36 meters (118 feet). The base of the pagoda is adorned with 108 small statues of Amida Nyorai, each accompanied by its prayer wheel. Devotees and pilgrims circumambulate the stupa in a clockwise direction while spinning prayer wheels, a practice believed to be equivalent to reciting the mantra. Boudhanath's monumental mandala structure makes it one of Nepal's largest spherical stupas, and its ancient origins make it one of the world's oldest stupas, designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Bhaktapur Durbar Square: In the afternoon, you'll explore Bhaktapur, the ancient royal capital with a history dating back to the 9th century. This fortified city, nestled in the Kathmandu Valley, is renowned for its medieval art and architecture. Stroll through its charming cobblestone streets, immersing yourself in the vibrant ambiance of the town square. Bhaktapur Durbar Square, also a UNESCO World Heritage Site, boasts monuments that reflect the grandeur of the Malla dynasty, a time when art and architecture thrived in the valley's cities. While at Bhaktapur Durbar Square, be sure to visit the Nyatapola Temple, a remarkable five-story structure, and the nearby Bhairavnath Temple, a three-story architectural marvel dedicated to Bhairav, the god of fear. The square's entrance, known as the Golden Gate, features 55 intricately carved 15th-century windows showcasing exquisite craftsmanship. The square is surrounded by buildings dating from the 13th to the 18th century.

After your day of exploration, you will be transported back to your hotel.

Dedicated to Bhairav, the god of terror, Bhairavnath Temple, a three-story architectural masterpiece, stands adjacent to the famous Nyatapola Temple. Both temples are celebrated for their artistic grandeur.

The profound faith that shapes the daily lives of the Nepalese is a captivating aspect of their culture.

Khokana: Khokana is a small Newar village established in the 7th century by the powerful Licchhavi rulers of Nepal. Khokana holds a rich historical significance and has impressively safeguarded its unique culture and customs despite the waves of modernization. It's fascinating to discover the age-old practices, such as not allowing chickens to roam freely and refraining from garlic cultivation in the village.
